DESCRIPTION

Very few skulls such as this bound with rings and ornaments still exist today. These skulls signified wealth and power to leaders of the tribe. The process of binding shell valuables to a skull paralleled the binding of rings and other valuables to sticks called vovoso which symbolised deceased chiefs. Old patina to ornamentation and skull.
